Smithfield Building is a hidden gem and is based in a 19th-century converted building, Smithfield Building was home to Affleck and Brown, Manchester’s most famous department store, the ‘Harrods of the north’. It was redevelopment in 1996 by urban splash and saw it transformed into 81 loft apartments and 21 ground floor retail units. The Victorian façade on the upper floors was renovated and all the retail units were finished with contemporary frontages featuring stone and steel details. The communal courtyard within the development is stunning.
