Gorton Monastery, behind Openshaw Campus, was named one of the most endangered sites in the world in 1997, alongside Pompeii, Taj Mahal and Valley of the Kings. It was nicknamed ‘Manchester’s Taj Mahal’ and has now been restored.
There is a great range of excellent facilities around the City of Manchester stadium now known as the Etihad Stadium, home to Manchester City – including athletics, squash and tennis, and the national velodrome cycling centre just off Bank Street. The new Manchester City Academy residential and Sports Village will be completed in 2013/2014 and also a Swimming and Leisure Centre along with the new Connell Sixth Form college and an Institute of Sport.
The Metrolink runs through with Sportcity being one of the main stops. Sportcity also has three primary schools two churches, the East Manchester Academy and the largest Asda Walmart in Europe, There are also regular buses along Ashton New Road and Ashton Old Road taking you into the city centre.
House prices are said to have quadrupled in Sportcity since 2004 and are expected to keep on rising.

There are some great developments enjoying the massive improvements to this area and lots of demand. The accommodation offered is varied and with the metro now so close it’s certainly on the map for one of the popular residential areas in Manchester.
