This 8-storey apartment complex provides a mixture of studio, one- and two-bedroom properties. Designed by the Building Design Partnership, the development is composed of four tower blocks surrounding a canopy-covered courtyard.
These ingenious apartments are based around a central pod, which contains a fully fitted bathroom with bath and shower, a fully integrated kitchen and a large storage space. The bedroom area is situated at the back of the pod and comes complete with a clever fold-away double bed, as well as additional storage space. To the front of the pod, there is a spacious living/dining area enhanced by floor-to-ceiling windows and a large balcony door.
The instant success of the first Abito complex at Greengate led to the development of the second Abito at Salford Quays. The key concept behind Abito is the elimination of dead space. As designer Jasper Sanders explains, the development team took “inspiration from the way the Japanese have successfully utilised smaller spaces through innovation”. Ideal for young professionals, Abito is smart, modern and exciting – the imaginative design really has to be seen to be believed!
Salford Quays has benefited from extensive regeneration over the past twenty years. Now a thriving business district, residential area and culture zone (being home to MediaCityUK, Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry arts complex), it’s a great alternative to living in Manchester city centre. The growing number of shops, bars and restaurants means that it is favoured by young professionals, mature students and families. The Quays are particularly popular with commuters due to the high number of developments with parking spaces, the proximity to the motorway and excellent public transport links, including several Metrolink stations.
