Abito, 4 Clippers Quay

This 8-storey apartment complex provides a mixture of studio, one- and two-bedroom properties. Designed by the Building Design Partnership, the development is composed of four tower blocks surrounding a canopy-covered courtyard.

These ingenious apartments are based around a central pod, which contains a fully fitted bathroom with bath and shower, a fully integrated kitchen and a large storage space. The bedroom area is situated at the back of the pod and comes complete with a clever fold-away double bed, as well as additional storage space. To the front of the pod, there is a spacious living/dining area enhanced by floor-to-ceiling windows and a large balcony door.
The instant success of the first Abito complex at Greengate led to the development of the second Abito at Salford Quays. The key concept behind Abito is the elimination of dead space. As designer Jasper Sanders explains, the development team took “inspiration from the way the Japanese have successfully utilised smaller spaces through innovation”.
